When you have a holiday that’s synonymous with candy, it can be difficult to find healthy yet festive alternatives. Not that we don’t enjoy a piece of candy or two or three, but with so many diet restrictions today, it’s never a bad idea to have an alternative on hand. Enter these three Halloween snacks that fit the bill. Now you can have your ghosts, and spiders and jack-o-lanterns without the toothache!
Can these be any more adorable or simpler? The only step you have to take is to lightly spray the bananas with lemon juice to prevent browning. Then pop in some chocolate chips or raisins for the eyes and mouth for a spook-tacular snack that’s great for all ages. You can also put them on sticks for a mess-free alternative. Live somewhere warm? You can freeze them too!
You may never think that peanut butter, raisins, crackers and pretzels could make cute little spiders but it sure does. Just spread some peanut butter on a cracker (like Ritz), lay 4 legs (pretzels) on each side, top with another cracker, two dabs of peanut butter and add the raisins. Boom. Tiny little spiders that double as a delicious and healthy snack. You can’t help but love American cooking techniques like these!
You don’t get much easier than this. You can either do your favorite store bought hummus or homemade hummus and plate it in a bowl. We recommend doing a pumpkin or roasted red pepper hummus for orange or wasabi, spinach or edamame hummus for green. Then take some canned black beans, rinse them and get creative! Use the black beans to create the outline of the eyes, nose and mouth It can be cute, scary or a bit of both. Either way, it will surely be a hit!
